Gems

Gems can change based on your build, equipment and caps. You may need to adjust your gems to account for your gear.

Enchants

You may need to adjust your enchants to your gear.

Stat Priority

  1. Hit (5%)
  2. Resilience (700 min)
  3. Agility
  4. Armor Penetration
  5. Critical Strike
  6. Attack Power
  7. Haste

For PVP you need 5% hit and at least 75 Spell Pen (130 is the cap). At least 700 Resilience is required to not instantly melt.

Agility is the primary DPS stat for Survival hunters. Agility has no cap and just keeps ramping up your damage as you add more.

Rotation

PvP & Survival doesn’t have a “rotation” in the typical sense. This is the priority list.

  1. Aimed Shot
  2. Hunter’s Mark should be on the target at all times.
  3. Serpent Sting should be used if everything else is on CD.
  4. Chimera Shot
  5. Arcane Shot
  6. Steady Shot if everything else is on cooldown.

Pets

Spider

Spider is the most commonly used Survival / Marksmanship hunter pets. The spider has a root with a 30 yard range. This root is probably a huge part of why it’s considered the best pet for everything except BM. The spider isn’t as tanky as the crab, so you may have to call it back to keep it from dying in certain situations.

Cunning Talents

Ravager

This pet uses the same build as the Spider. Ravagers can immobilize and silence the target for 2 seconds but it’s a melee range ability and ravagers are not tanky.

Crab

Crabs can be used to lock an opponent down. Crabs pin ability requires them to be in melee range… Which would be an issue but crabs are associated with the Tenacity tree which makes them very tanky.

Gems can change based on your build, equipment and caps. You may need to adjust your gems to account for your gear.

Enchants

You may need to adjust your enchants to your gear.

Stat Priority

  1. Hit (8%, 263 rating) 5% should be your first goal.
  2. Attack Power
  3. Agility
  4. Critical Strike
  5. Armor Penetration

You need 8% hit cap for raids. you should first shoot for 5% for dungeons and work your way to that 8% number.

Attack power is the main stat  because your pet benefits from your attack power as well.

Agility increases both your attack power and critical strike rating, so it’s also a solid stat.

Rotation

This is your skill priority, since players don’t usually allow you to run through an entire rotation.

Kill Shot ->  Aimed Shot -> Arcane Shot -> Serpent Sting -> Steady Shot

Pets

Pets are very important to Hunters. One of the hardest choices a hunter has to make is which pet to use. The popular pets for PVP are: Chimaera, Core Hound or Worm. I’ll go over each with a build below.

Chimaera

Chimaera has an ability called Froststorm Breath which makes it the best Exotic PVP pet. The Breath is a ranged attack that slows the target by 50% for 5 seconds. The CD is rather low, so you can keep the enemy slowed most of the time.

Chimaera build

You can swap between Cornered & Bullheaded or Grace of the Mantis and Roar of Sacrifice.

Core Hound

Core Hounds have high DPS and an ability called Lava Breath which is great for bursting down enemies. Lava breath also applies a debuff on the target reducing their casting speed by 25%. Core Hounds are a bit squishy which makes them better for Arena than Battlegrounds.

Core Hound Build

Optionally, you can swap Bloodthirsty and Heart of the Pheonix for Culling the Herd. This will increase your damage output.

Worm

Worms are the go-to pets for Battlegrounds. They are really hard to kill and apply an armor debuff to their targets. Worms have great abilities too, Charge, Intervene, Roar of Sacrifice and Last Stand.

Pets

Pets are very important to BM Hunters. One of the hardest choices a hunter has to make is which pet to use. These are the popular raiding pets.

  • Wolves have less damage but buff you with Furious Howl
  • Wasps can provide Sting which is a really good debuff. (It doesn’t stack with similar effects.
  • Raptors and Cats have lower DPS but are still viable.

The Ferocity talent tree is the way to go. Here is a build to get you started.
Sadly, we don’t have the extra 4 talents Beast Mastery does nor can we tame exotic creatures.

Hunter Pet Build – Survival

PVE WotLK Marksmanship Hunter DPS Guide (Short)

Welcome to our PVE Marksmanship Hunter guide for WoW WotLK. This guide will show you what you need to know to play the Hunter class as Marksmanship.

Talents

There are two popular Marksmanship builds. The first build is for new players that don’t have 700+ Armor Penetration and utilizes Arcane Shot. The first build also has Focused Aim which gives you an extra 3% chance to hit.

Arcane Shot Build

This build does not use Arcane Shot anymore and instead you should now be using Aimed Shot. This build also drops Focused Aim because you should now be hit capped with just your gear. This allows us to pick up Improved Hunter’s Mark.

Enchants

You may need to adjust your enchants to your gear.

Stat Priority

  1. Hit (8%, 263 rating) 5% should be your first goal.
  2. Agility
  3. Armor Pen
  4. Critical Strike
  5. Attack Power
  6. Haste

You need 8% hit cap for raids. you should first shoot for 5% for dungeons and work your way to that 8% number.

To start off with Agility is the primary stat for Marksmanship Hunters.

Once you hit 700 Armor pen though it moves up above Agility. So once you get to 700 Armor Pen start prioritizing it over Agility. The cap for Armor Pen is 1400, so you should stop there.

Initially you will have Arcane shot in your rotation doing magical damage. After your Armor Pen passes 700 though, you should remove Arcane shot from your rotation and focus on physical damage. Don’t forget to also remove the talent points associated with Arcane shot.

Rotation

Kill Shot -> Serpent Sting -> Chimera Shot -> Aimed Shot or Arcane Shot -> Steady Shot

  • Kill Shot is your top priority but it is only usable after the target’s health is below 20%. Once you can use it, you should use it as often as possible.
  • Serpent Sting needs to be up at all time. Buffs Chimera Shot
  • Chimera Shot is your ssecond best damage dealing ability.
  • Aimed Shot is better than Arcane Shot but only with enough Armor Pen. Use Arcane Shot until you have the Armor Pen then switch to Aimed Shot.
  • Arcane Shot is only used when you have low Armor Penetration. Should not be used with the second build.

PVE WotLK Beast Mastery Hunter DPS Guide (Short)

Welcome to our PVE Beast Mastery Hunter guide for WoW WotLK. This guide will show you what you need to know to play the Hunter class as Beast Mastery.

Talents

This build is designed for hunters with low gear scores. If you have lower hit rating, you would want to take Focused Aim and give up either Lethal Shots or Careful Aim. If you have 8% hit rating (the cap) then the last point can go into Catlike Reflexes, Invigoration or Improved Tracking.

Starter Build

This build is designed for players with higher gear scores. Improved Arcane Shot is dropped and Improved Tracking is taken. The reasoning is that tracking improves overall damage and scales with armor pen.
