How to get to Dalaran

There are several ways to get to Dalaran in Wrath of the Lich King Classic! In this quick guide, we are going to discuss the different ways that you can access Dalaran. These are really quick quests that teleport you directly to the city from Dragonblight!

Paths to Dalaran

  1. Have a mage portal you
  2. Get summoned by a warlock
  3. Quest:The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran – Non-Mages
  4. Quest:Attunement to Dalaran – Mages

Note about mages

Mages get teleport Dalaran at level 71 (and can portal themselves)
Mages get portal Dalaran at level 74 (and can portal others)

Non-Mage Quest

Today we are going to be looking at how to get to Dalaran city in Wrath of the Lich King. The good news is that you don’t need to actually walk to Silversong forest to get there. The bad news is that you have to be level 74 to get the quest that teleports you to Dalaran City. If you remembered that there is a crystal below Dalaran, you may have walked there and tried to click the crystal below Dalaran. Unfortunately, this will only tell you that you need to click the crystal inside the floating city of dalaran first.. Which is potentially problematic.

The answer to this is actually a quest in Dragonblight!

Both factions can pick up this quest at their respective cities in Dragonblight.

Quest Start Location:

  • The Alliance pick the quest up in Star’s Rest from Archmage Moderao
  • The Horde pick the quest up in Agmar’s Hammer from the Image of Archmage Aethas Sunreaver

Talk to the quest giver and pick up the quest.
Then turn around and talk to him or her again.
This time he will have the option to teleport you to Dalaran!

If you need to look the quest up, the quest is called The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran
Now that you have taken the quest and talked to the quest giver again, you should get teleported to Dalaran.

Once you are safely inside Dalaran, you have to turn that quest in to the NPC here.

Both factions turn the quest in at the same place.

Once you turn the quest in, you can now use the crystal inside Dalaran to teleport below Dalaran.
this will teleport you below the city to the crystal I showed at the start of this guide.

At this point you can use the crystal on the ground in `forest to teleport back up at any time.

Once you’ve gotten to Dalaran though, I usually like to set my Hearthstone here.

I also recommend getting the flight path and using that to fly everywhere.
Dalaran is in the center of Northrend, which makes it a great flight path to have. It can be a pain tracking down all of the connecting flight paths though.

After Wrath of the Lich King has been out for a while, you should just be able to find a mage willing to portal you to Dalaran for a few gold.

You can also get summoned there but that’s a lot more work.

Mage Teleport Quest

Alright, Mages get a little bonus here! They can actually go to Dalaran at level 71 and portal people to Dalaran at 74!

So how can a mage get teleport Dalaran as soon as they hit level 71?

Well, first they could take a shortcut and have another mage who is level 74 portal them into Dalaran.
Once inside Dalaran you can freely learn teleport Dalaran at level 71.

You just walk over to the portal trainer and she teaches you teleport: Dalaran at level 71 and portal: Dalaran at level 74.

Thankfully though, Blizzard did not give mages the ability to teleport to a city that they can’t access.
Which means, contrary to general chat, you can get to Dalaran below level 74!

There is actually an NPC at Star’s Rest, if you are alliance, or Wintergarde Keep, if you are horde, in Dragonblight that offers you a class-specific quest.
For both the Alliance and the Horde this quest is called “Attunement to Dalaran”

To get to Star’s Rest or Wintergarde Keep, you just need to stay on the road from Valiance Keep and you run right into it. If you stick closely to the road, you shouldn’t be attacked by anything!

Keep in mind you do have to be level 71 for the NPC to give you the quest, so you can’t just go grab it early.

Once you pick up “Attunement to Dalaran” from the NPC, you will need to head south to Moonrest Gardens.
There you will find a giant hole, you will need to use the item the NPC gave you at the center of the hole.
This required me to kill Arcanimus who was standing exactly where it wanted the item to be used.

After you return to Star’s Rest or Agmar, depending on your faction..

Talk to the NPC again and he will teach you Teleport: Dalaran, which will allow you to teleport directly to Dalaran!

Wrap up

and that’s all there is to it!

Getting to Dalaran is actually really easy, even without a mage, as long as you know where the quests are to get teleported there. Just please, whatever you do, don’t walk to Crystalsong forest without having clicked the crystal in Dalaran. Don’t be me.

Anyways, have a good one and I’ll see you next time!

Helm Enchants in Wotlk

Helm (Head Slot) Enchants

With the release of Wrath of the Lich King come new helmet enchants! These work just like regular enchants but are not created by enchanters. Helm enchants are items that can be used on helmets to add a stat bonus to that item. They work just like armor kits that leatherworkers make, oh wait, armor kits can work on your helm!

Northrend PVE helm Enchants

These are the main helm enchants that everyone will be going for in Wrath of the Lich King! These are the most powerful enchants for PVE! If you are a dPS, tank or healer these will be the enchants for you!

The Arcanum of Torment will require you to get revered with the Ebon Blade but it is the most bang for your buck as a melee DPS. If you are a Healer, you would be interested in the Arcanum of Blissful Mending, which offers Spellpower and mp5. Tanks are going to be looking at the Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector which will require you to be revered with the Argent Crusade. The Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector provides 37 stamina and 20 defense rating. Last but not least would be the Caster DPS Enchantment Arcanum of Burning Mysteries. This one will require you to be revered with the Kirin Tor but is very worth it!

Northrend PVP Helm Enchants

The Arcanum of the Savage Gladiator requires you to be exalted with the Alliance Vanguard to purchase it. This is a very tanky PVP helm enchant. It boasts 30 stamina and 25 resilience which is nice for survivability. Most classes will probably use the PVE helm enchants listed above for PVP but if you need the extra survivability then this helm enchant is the way to go!

The other PVP helm enchants are the Arcanum of Triumph and the Arcanum of Dominance. These require Stone Keeper’s Shard‘s which can be earned in Wintergrasp. These are purchased from the vendor inside of the Wintergrasp hold and require that your faction currently control Wintergrasp to be purchased.

Resistance Helm Enchants

These enchants give resistances and stamina. These are sold by quartermaster for the various factions around Northrend. For example, you have to be Honored with The Sons of Hodir to buy the Arcanum of the Frosty Soul from Lillehoff. These are useful for some extra stamina while you are working on getting Exalted with your respective faction.

Other Helm Enchants

These are some other optional helmet enchants that you can get in Wrath of the Lich King. The Heavy Borean Armor Kit is made by Leatherworking. The other option is Mind Amplification Dish which is made using Engineering. I would personally recommend the PVE Enchants over these unless you don’t have the reputation for those. The Mind Amplification Dish is interesting though with it’s unique ability and ton of stamina.

Shoulder Enchants in Wotlk

Shoulder Enchants

With the release of Wrath of the Lich King came new shoulder “enchants”! In World of Warcraft Shoulder Enchants are actually inscriptions. They work just like enchants but are not created by enchanters.

Shoulder Inscriptions are items that can be used on shoulder armor to add a nice stat bonus to that item. They work just like armor kits that leatherworkers make!

If you are raiding in Wrath of the Lich King, your raid leader will expect you to have all of your gear gemmed and enchanted! This will apply to all of your gear, which will include your shoulders! The only profession that can enchant shoulders are inscriptionists and they can only enchant their own shoulders. Due to needing to have your shoulders inscribed to raid (or PVP), I think it is time we start talking about where to get the shoulder inscriptions!

Northrend PVE shoulder enchants

In the Wrath of the Lich expansion, PvE shoulder enchants are sold by the Sons of Hodir. You will have to get honored and eventually exalted with the Sons of Hodir which are located in Storm Peaks. Inscription allows you to skip this by enchanting (inscribing) your own shoulder armor! It should be noted that the inscription shoulder enchant is actually better than the ones sold by the Sons of Hodir. It’s the main perk to being an inscription.

Sons of Hodir Inscriptions

Once a player gets to honored they can purchase the following enchants:

After the player gets to Exalted they will be able to buy the best enchants from the Sons of Hodir:

Bind on Account

The Greater Inscriptions that you get at Exalted are actually Bind on Account! This means that you only need to get Exalted with the Sons of Hodir on your main character. After that, you can transfer them to any of your alts and skip doing that whole process again! Your alt will have to be level 80 to use the inscriptions but it is so nice not to have to grind the rep again.

Inscription only shoulder enchants

Leveling Inscription will allow you access to a totally different list of shoulder enchants! These are stronger than the Sons of Hodir Inscriptions and are a really strong profession boost.

You will have to get to level 400 Inscription before you can learn these enchants but it is well worth it! Keep in mind, when you apply an inscription to a shoulder slot item, it becomes Soulbound and cannot be traded anymore. These inscriptions all require 1 Snowfall Ink

The four Inscription only inscriptions:

Wintergrasp PVP Shoulder Enchants

If you are the type of player that enjoys some PvP, then you may want to drop by Wintergrasp to get some shoulder enchants that have some resilience rating on them. Resilience is the main defensive stat in PVE and becomes very useful in WotLK!

There are two shoulder Enchants that come from Wintergrasp. Both of these are sold by the faction-specific vendors in Wintergrasp. These vendors are located inside the keep and require your faction currently has possession of Wintergraspto to talk to them. Both of these vendors sell their enchants for 30 Stone Keeper’s Shards

The two pvp shoulder enchants are:

WoTLK Classic mount cost and level requirements

Overview

Getting your first mount is one of the best feelings in the World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King! It is one of the most rewarding parts of leveling and makes getting around the world so much easier! With Wrath of the Lich King Classic coming out soon, that brings up the mount cost question again!

How much will your mount cost? What level will be required to ride it? So many more questions come with that but today I’m going to spend some time answering all of these questions! We are going to go over everything regarding mount prices, speeds, and, level requirements.

Slow Ground Mount

Your first mount can be bought at level 20 in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. In Burning Crusade Classic, this was level 30 and now it will be lowered to 20, which will make getting your first ride that much faster! Gotta get to saving ASAP!

Slow Ground Mounts

We typically call this first mount your “slow mount” because it adds 60% movement speed instead of the 100% speed that comes with the “fast ground mount”. This may be the “slow mount” it is so much better than walking, you will be super excited by the time you get it! That’s at least the case with me.

The riding skill for the slow mount costs 4 gold (before applying any faction discounts) and will require level 20. The mount itself will cost an additional 1 gold.

Apprentice Riding WoW Wotlk

Fast Ground Mount

At level 40 you can buy your next mount in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. This new mount is a huge improvement over the much slower ground mount you purchased earlier.

Fast Ground Mounts

Fast Ground Mount

This Fast ground mount gives you an extra 100% movement speed which makes it a lot of fun to ride! After doing all that walking, there is just nothing like sprinting around on your new fast mount!

The riding skill to use the fast mount will cost 50 gold before any reputation-based discounts. The Journeyman riding skill will require you to be level 40. The bulk of the price will be in the riding skill but the mount itself will cost an additional 10 gold.

Slow Flying Mount

Your next mount will be the slow flying mount. This mount only adds an additional 150% movement speed. To learn Expert Riding which is required to ride this mount you will need to be level 70. The only exception to this will be Druids. Druids can slow fly at level 68 when they get flight form.

Expert Riding will cost 250 gold and then you will need to spend an additional 50 gold to buy the mount. This sounds like a pricey endeavor for a slow mount but it is well worth it!

This mount will allow you to farm the elemental plateau and do additional daily quests. The mount can also help you get to places quicker because you can fly over obstacles and go in a straight line.

Fast Flying Mount

Alright, so you have saved up your 5000 gold and are ready to party with the big boys and girls. This is the big one! Once you unlock Artisan Riding you are ready to spend an additional 200 gold to buy a fast flying mount and own the skies!

This fast-flying mount moves at 280% movement speed and soars through the sky! This mount is well worth the investment if you can gather up the gold but 5200 gold isn’t the easiest thing in the world to come by.

Cold Weather Flying

If you would like to fly in Northrend then you are going to have to purchase Cold Weather Flying! Cold Weather Flying is going to cost 1000 gold and will require level 77. You can buy Cold Weather Flying in Dalaran at Krasus’ Landing.

Tome of Cold Weather Flying

Alts will have an easier time flying in Northrend! You can purchase the Tome of Cold Weather Flying from Hira Snowdawn for 1000 gold. This will allow your alt to fly in Northrend at level 68! This is account bound.. So you can’t buy it and then give it to your friend 😛

All Profession Bonuses in Wotlk

Overview

As the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic approaches, we are faced with the decision of which professions to choose. Wrath of the Lich King will bring new bonuses for professions, these are perks that you receive based on your specific profession. The perk may be more hit points, the ability to enchant your ring or the ability to ride on a magic carpet! The sky is the limit with these perks and I’m going to go through what perks you will receive for every profession!

Some of these perks favor raiders and others will be better for those that engage in PVP. Due to the diversity of play, there isn’t one profession that is just the best for everyone, so you will have to decide which profession fits your playstyle but with that being said, let’s get right into it!

Alchemy Bonuses

Alchemy allows you to make trinkets that can only be worn by Alchemists. This was available in TBC but the stats on the trinkets have been upgraded!

Blacksmithing Bonuses

Blacksmithing allows you to add an extra socket to your Gloves and Bracers! This is definitely a top tier bonus!

Enchanting Bonuses

Enchanting allows you to enchant both of your rings! This was around in TBC but the enchants have been enhanced for Wotlk!

Engineering Bonuses

Engineering doesn’t have great bonuses in the way of stats for your character. Instead you get a bunch of really cool toys to play with. A fun profession to have but probably not the best to min-max with.

Herbalism Bonuses

Herbalism has a really cool heal-over-time spell. This can pair well with vanish on a rogue for a little extra healing. Definitely a cool perk!

  • Lifeblood – Heals for 3600 over 5 seconds (Based on max health), 3 minute Cooldown

Inscription Bonuses

Inscription is the new profession added in Wrath of the Lich King. Inscription allows you to make Glyph, which are a great new form of character customization. Inscription allows you to create powerful shoulder enchantments, there are a bunch of different stat combinations, so I’m only going to list a couple.

Jewelcrafting Bonuses

Jewelcrafting comes with 18 Jewelcrafter specific gems, these are epic gems that only jewelcrafters can use. This is definitely one of the best bonuses given by any profession and is my personal favorite. You can only have 3 of these gem’s equipped at once but they do add up to a nice stat bonus, similar in power to blacksmithing and enchanting.

Since there are so many Jewelcrafter specific epic gems, I’m only going to list some of my favorite below, you can click here to see all of them.

Leatherworking Bonuses

Leatherworking is another great profession choice, Leatherworking allows you to enchant your bracers with Fur Lining, giving really nice stat bonuses! This pairs really well with Skinning for rogues, you end up with a nice stat bonus, just from your professions!

Mining Bonuses

Mining is a great profession for tanks, as it gives a straight HP bonus (+60 stamina). You don’t have to enchant or equip anything, it’s just a passive bonus you receive as you level mining!

Skinning Bonuses

Skinning is a great profession for rogues or really anyone that needs critical strike rating. As you level skinning, you gain a passive critical strike bonus that goes up to 25!

Tailoring Bonuses

Tailoring is a really fun profession to level and it has two bonuses. The first is the cloak enchants that give you stat boosts, these can be great for min-maxing your character! The other perk is that you get to ride on a flying carpet!

That about wraps it up as far as Profession bonuses are concerned. I feel like Blizzard did a great job with profession bonuses, they really make something that is fun and optional very useful and will get more people out there leveling professions!

Thanks for joining me on this guide through the Wrath of the Lich King profession bonuses and I’ll see you in the next one!
